QUT competes in Oxford IP Moot

The QUT Moot team of Ben Fraser and Jodie Connolly with Jen Yule as coach travelled to England to compete in the Oxford IP Moot last weekend. Even though the weather was cold, wet and windy the team performed very well in the rounds with wins against the University of Newcastle and the London School of Economics. QUT then faced National University of Singpaore in the quarterfinals. It was a close moot with NUS winning and then going on to the win the final against the University of British Columbia. Ben and Jodie did really well and should be congratulated on working so hard with Ben winning the trophy for Best Mooter and getting to sit on the top table for the awards dinner with the Lord Justices. Also thanks to Tim Wilkins who as researcher for the team worked hard on the written submissions and preparation in the final weeks and thanks to everyone who helped with the practice moots.

QUT competes in India

The QUT moot team of Callan Lloyd, Leith Helsdon and Kit Cameron with Professor Kamal Puri as coach travelled to Mumbai to compete in the DM Harish International Moot Competition. There were 26 teams competing with 13 of those teams from overseas, with QUT being the only team from Australia. In the first moot the team performed very well winning their moot against the team from the India Law School, finishing in the top 10 after the first round. QUT then faced the team from Washington University. Unfortunately QUT lost and Washington went on to ultimately win the competition. The competition was a great experience for the QUT team and the Government Law College were very good hosts. The team should be congratulated for all their hard work preparing for the moot in a short amount of time with very little experience in international law.

QUT finishes third at Jessup Moot

The QUT Jessup Team of 2008 consisted of Matthew Glenn, David Morgans, Christina Surm, Priya Dalal and Troy Blakeney with Dilan Thampapillai as coach. They performed exceptionally well at the competition in Canberra held at the ANU from 29 January until 2 February in which 13 teams participated. After the rounds, QUT was ranked first after winning all their moots against Bond, Macquarie, UTS and University of Melbourne. They won their quarter final against Murdoch but unfortunately lost their semi final against UNSW. UQ was ranked second at the break but lost their semi final against University of Sydney who then went on and won the final. Bond ranked fifth at the break but lost in their quarter final. QUT finished the competition third overall as well as third for the written Memorials. This has been the best result QUT has achieved in the Jessup Competition.
